Ok, I’ll admit it, I’ve been in a breakfast funk so I went searching for a new morning favorite. I keep hearing how great chia seed is for breakfast so I tried out a number of chia porridge recipes and now I’m obsessed. I took my favorite tastes from all the recipes I tried and created an easy, delicious and totally satisfying morning favorite. Once the ultimate energy food for ancient Mayans, chia seeds are considered a super food because they are loaded with nutrients, antioxidants, omega-3s, calcium and fiber. As for protein, chia is considered a complete protein since it contains all 8 essential amino acids which build strong healthy tissues. This recipe is versatile so feel free to top it with your favorite fruit, granola, shredded coconut and nuts.
Warm Chia Seed Breakfast Delight Recipe
- 3 tbs chia seeds
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1/2 cup fruit of your choice (I used pear because thats what I had on hand)
- 1 tsp almond butter
- 1 tsp maple syrup
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 tsp cardamon
- optional – nuts, granola, fruit, coconut to taste – experiment and enjoy
Heat almond milk, almond butter, maple syrup, vanilla and spices over medium heat for around 5 minutes until heated through but not boiling. Stir in chia seeds, remove from heat and let sit for 10 mins, stirring occasionally. Top with fruit, granola or your other favorites and enjoy!
