I love grapefruit—the harmony of tangy and sweet tastes that burst forth with each bite. However, I rarely eat raw grapefruit. It upsets my fiery nature. I eat it and I immediately begin to sweat. Weird, I know, but true. As you know its cleansing season and grapefruit is a great cleanser. According to Ayurveda the sour flavor of grapefruit stimulates bile production and flushes toxins out of the liver, so naturally during my cleanse I would like to eat grapefruit. So here’s what I do. I bake it. By eating baked grapefruit I still get all the cleansing benefits without upsetting my fiery nature.
Super Simple Baked Grapefruit
- 1 grapefruit cut in half
- Sprinkle each half with coconut sugar, cinnamon and your favorite spices. (I’m crazy about cardamom.)
- Bake at 375 degrees for ~ 15 minute. Serve with optional toasted walnuts, granola, or yogurt

Note: In many recipes you will see directions to add honey as a sweetener. According Ayurveda baking honey creates toxins.
