Why Ayurveda Rules!

A few of years back I was experiencing a number of seemingly disconnected symptoms; low energy, joint pain, constant stomach issues, mood swings and headaches. After seeing a number of health professionals from a range of modalities with no resolution I found my way to an Ayurvedic practitioner. What I discovered about myself, my connection to the world around me and my ability to take charge of my health amazed me.  I was hooked.

This past weekend I had an amazing opportunity to continue my studies in Ayurveda with Pamela Quinn. Pamela is the author of one of my favorite Ayurveda books, The Elemental Cleanse and is a gifted teacher. I love watching people discover Ayurveda for the first time. It’s so cool to see the ah-ha moments when it all comes together for them. The deeper I dive into Ayurveda the more beauty I find in the simple truth in its teachings.

Ayurveda – (pronounced i-yer-vay-da) literally means the wisdom of life, and it is an ancient science of healing derived some 5,000 years ago from the wisdom of Indian scholars.  As a medical science, Ayurveda offers a holistic guide for awakening ones healing potential.  Although this system of healing has its roots in India it can easily be adapted by anyone.

Have you ever wonder why we are all so different? Why some people are fast moving like a humming bird and others slow and steady like an elephant? Why some folks can eat anything and everything without gaining an ounce while others feel heavy after only eating a salad?

According to Ayurveda, the answers to these differences can be found by looking at nature. Every living and non-living being in the universe is composed of a combination of five basic elements; Space, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. How these 5 elements are expressed in you is your personal map for creating lasting wellness. In Ayurveda, health is a continuous process that embraces all aspects of life; physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. By understanding your unique makeup in relationship to the natural world, you will become your greatest healer.
