I’ll admit, even with all the great tools I have to create a healthy lifestyle and how much awareness I have around keeping myself balanced, I get stressed-out. Nowadays, I am better at choosing healthy options for de-stressing like getting on my yoga mat and taking several deep breaths, heading outside for a walk or simply taking a break with a my favorite tea. But sometimes chocolate is the only answer. Instead of devouring a pint of peanut butter chocolate ice cream (yup I have done that!) or eating that delicious salted chocolate bar try my favorite quick fix raw cacao recipes to satisfy any chocolate craving. And here’s a fun fact for you: Did you know craving dark chocolate can be a sign you are deficient in magnesium? A few other high Mg foods to try are: dark leafy greens, pumpkin seeds, avocados and black beans
Cacao is chocolate in its raw form and it’s actually good for us.Cacao is loaded with antioxidants, magnesium, fiber and number of other nutrients that promote heart health and boost our moods.
Warm Bananas with Peanut Butter Cacao Sauce
This is a recipe I picked up years ago from Michelle Pfennighaus. It’s simple to make and sure to satisfy any chocolate craving.
- 1 Tbsp. coconut oil
- 1 banana, sliced thick
- 1 – 2 Tbsp. of no sugar added peanut butter or almond butter
- 1/8 – 1/4 raw cocoa
- optional pinch of coconut palm sugar
In a small pan, heat the coconut oil over medium high heat and cook the banana slices for a minute or two on each side. Transfer bananas to a plate. In the same pan reduce heat to low, add a little more oil if needed, and combine peanut butter and cocoa. Stir until melted. Pour over bananas and enjoy!
